What is a quiz meet?
It is an
all-day competition from the morning to the late afternoon with teams
from different churches in NJ and NY. Junior teams compete against
junior teams, and senior teams compete against senior teams. Each team
usually has 3~5 quizzers and one coach who guides the team. Every team
competes in 3 preliminary quizzes for the day. After the preliminary
quizzes, the scores are compiled, and the top 3 teams will compete in
the finals. The quiz meets are held in different churches. The quiz meet
schedule can be accessed at
our
Bible Quizzing
web page .
What Scriptures do we memorize?
We are
memorizing passages, verse by verse and word by word, from selected New
Testament books. In average, senior quizzers memorize 700~900 verses,
and junior quizzers memorize 300~400 verses in a year. The following
books are covered in an 8-year period: Matthew, Luke, John, Acts,
Romans, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, Philemon, I & II
Corinthians, James, Hebrews, and 1 & 2 Peter. Basically, if you
consistently attend Bible Quizzing for eight years, you will be able to
memorize all of those books. For more details of the books covered each
year, you can go to the
C&MA Bible Quiz Future Years Material web page .
When and how can I join Bible Quizzing?
The best
time to join Bible Quizzing is in September when the quiz season starts.
If you miss that, you are still allowed to join any time during the
first half of the quiz season from September through January. However,
our ability to take new quizzers depends on the availability of enough
coaches and quiz practice (quiz masters) volunteers. If there are not
enough coaches or quiz masters to shepherd the quizzers, we cannot take
new quizzers.
To join
Bible Quizzing, please send an email to the
coordinator
. Please include the following information:
What if I don’t know if Bible quizzing fits me?
If you are
not sure if Bible Quizzing fits you, you can try it out, but it is
imperative that you attend two quiz meets. During these two months’
trial period, you are required to do every activity as a normal quizzer
– memorize verses daily and attend weekly practices and monthly quiz
meets
Parents' Involvement
The success of Bible Quizzing ministry depends heavily on parents'
attitude and involvement.
-
If
parents have a strong conviction on the power of God's Words, then the
children will be willing to put time and effort to memorize.
-
Quizzers
need parents’ help to establish self-discipline in memorizing God's
words daily. The parents play an important role of guiding them into a
good devotional habit.
-
Lots of
volunteering work is needed for this ministry:
-
Help hosting quiz meet.
Our
church usually hosts 3~4 quiz meets a year. We need dedicated people
to serve by leading worship, preparing lunch, arranging quiz rooms
and facilities, and keeping scores.
-
Coach a quizzing team and provide rides for the team to quiz meets.
Every
3~4 quizzers need a coach who can guide them to quiz as a team,
develop their potentials, and shepherd individual needs.
