Dear praying family and friends,

Greetings from Sao Paulo, Brazil again!  We came back safely last Wednesday morning.  Our 2-month home assignment/furlough was very enjoyable and refreshing.  We started our 2 months with a trip to Toronto to visit some friends and family.  We even had at a chance to stop by the Alliance Church in Waterloo to meet the brothers and sisters there and had a little sharing.  That was a nice bonus and thanks to the arrangement by Mrs. Louis.  Then we stopped by Buffalo on our way back to NY to visit Rev. Jon Schuerholz and his wife Esta.  We had time to spend with our family and friends.  We got our Christmas gifts in June at our home church.  James went to a few churches to share about God’s work here in Sao Paulo.  We even took the kids to the Museum of Natural History to look at the dinosaurs and other animals and the kids really enjoyed the trip.

Although 2 months is really short and we wish we could have stayed in the States longer, we are glad at the same time that we are back and can serve the people here.  The kids had a good start at school.  Their classes started last Thursday and now Timothy goes to an English preschool run by an American missionary at her own home.  Although the two boys go to different schools, they ride on the same bus because the schools are really close together.  We praise the Lord for He answered our prayers.  The kids now get on the school bus at 7am and come home at 4:30pm (verses 6:30am and 6:00pm before at our old house).  The kids have a lot more time to play at home now, although less time or no time to sleep on the bus.  On Timothy’s first day of school, we drove him to the new school and we stayed with him for a few hours before he felt comfortable enough to let us go home.  When he came home on the school bus with Jonathan he seemed really happy.  We think he must have enjoyed the rest of his day at school, or he really liked the ride on the big school bus (a little smaller than a Grey Hound bus) with big brother Jonathan and being able to play with Jonathan’s friends.  Please pray for Timothy’s adjustment as he gets pretty moody when mommy tries to wake him up at 6:30am and he would say he doesn’t want to go to school.  Pray for Jonathan as he begins his second grade.  Pray that he will learn to take care of himself in this cold weather when mommy and daddy are not around and wisely manage his time when he does his homework.  Joanna is still staying at home with mommy and is talking more and more.  Pray that the Lord will continue to give us wisdom, patience and love to nurture these three precious kids.

Many friends have asked us about Nikki’s eyes.  It’s been almost 5 months since she had the laser surgery in both of her eyes (PRK for left one due to the recurrent abrasion syndrome and Lasik for the right one).  She was doing fine until we went back to the States.  She experienced some extreme dryness in her eyes, especially the right one, when we were about half way into our stay in the States.  After we came back, the dryness has improved tremendously and we suspect that the problem was that her eyes couldn’t adapt to the “new” environment in NY (dry weather and air conditioning).  Please continue to pray for the recovery of her eyes.  She had a check up at the ophthalmologist office last Friday and she was told that her right eye now has 20/20 vision and the left one has only  -0.50 astigmatism left.  Thank the Lord for His healing hand.
